Oysterbaby ~ wear to love

Oysterbaby slings are beautifully crafted from 100% organic bamboo and cotton and are handmade in England. I offer a range of sumptuous limited edition designs (new ones every 6 months). I hope you will agree that they are specially created for mothers and fathers who love to wear their babies with style, safety and comfort.

I wanted to create a sling that made me feel beautiful and empowered when carrying my baby. So Oysterbaby slings combine fashion with practicality. They are gorgeous as well as lightweight, breathable, supportive, incredibly soft, versatile and safe. Handmade in England, they are recommended by midwives and endorsed by a chiropractor.

My story

My name is Kate and I set up Oysterbaby in 2010 after becoming pregnant and falling in love with the natural way of parenting I saw in West Africa during midwife volunteering placements.

I qualified as a midwife in 2007, so I have thorough experience in the field of parental and natal health. This is where my passion for slings started.
There are many benefits from keeping your baby close - it stabilises your baby's heart rate, breathing and temperature, as well as encouraging weight gain. Wearing your baby in a sling eases the transition from the womb to the outside world, allowing him/her to thrive whilst promoting your special bond.
When I volunteered as a midwife in West Africa in 2009, I found myself in a privileged position - living and working with families. I learnt about ancient traditions, medicines, customs and philosophies. I saw babies being carried on their mothers’ backs, going everywhere with them and having their needs consistently met. They slept when they wanted and received constant comfort with close contact. I witnessed these babies growing into strong, independent and happy children.

When I returned from Africa, I fell pregnant and struggled to find the right sling. So, using my knowledge as a midwife, my lessons from Africa and my experience as a mother Oysterbaby was born!
